About Dee

Dee Salomon, the ‘Ungardener’ writes, advocates and consults on woodland restoration.

Dee moved to Litchfield County a decade ago and began clearing invasive plant species from the woodland adjacent to the property. Several things happened through the process:

  • Nature responded to Dee’s remedial actions; tree seeds germinated and grew quickly, creating a much needed understory of trees

  • Native shrubs and herbaceous plants began to grow, all in response to the eradication of the invasives

  • Dee also grew in her knowledge of, and passion for, the rehabilitation of woodlands

Dee writes on the topic for several publications and has a monthly column in the Lakeville Journal. Along with many other ungardeners across the country, Dee advocates for the restoration of native habitats by removing invasive plant species and propagating native plants.
